The meeting was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on the sidelines of the 14th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
Iran attaches special significance to enhancement of relations with its neighbors, Russia in particular, said President Rouhani.
Rouhani noted that Iran is serious in promotion of ties with Russia.
He expressed satisfaction with Tehran-Moscow cooperation in the fields of science and technology, calling for more cooperation in the areas of technical and engineering exchanges.
The Iranian president also urged both countries to make every effort to give a boost to trade between Tehran and Moscow.
The Russian president, for his part, said that a special committee is to be formed in Russia to pursue the implementation of agreements signed between the two countries.
Putin underlined the need for further cooperation in energy sector and called for expansion of increased Tehran-Moscow cultural and social relations.
In addition, the two presidents discussed the course of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 and voiced support for reaching a comprehensive solution between the negotiating parties by the November 24 deadline.
President Rouhani left Dushanbe for Tehran later in the day.
