Rouhani hopes unity process would remove violence in Afghanistan

Tehran, Dec 9, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday welcomed taking office of the national unity government in Afghanistan and hoped the unity process would lead to removal of terror and violence in the country and bring about stability, prosperity and growth instead.

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Mohammad Mohaqiq.

The president expressed concern about drug-trafficking and menaces of terrorism and said that drug-trafficking posed a threat to the security of the entire region requiring serious and collective efforts to deal with.

President Rouhani said Iran is ready to help Afghanistan change its agricultural pattern and replace poppy cultivation with other crops if the Kabul government demands.

The Afghan official, for his part, hailed the support of the Iranian nation and government for Afghanistan during tough conditions and assistance to the Afghan government to develop democracy in the country.

Mohaqiq thanked the Iranian government for providing the Afghan refugees living in Iran with educational opportunities and asked for more services to be rendered to the Afghan immigrants.
