Iranian Sunni Ulima condemn Saudi attacks on Yemen

Shiraz, Fars Prov., April 18, IRNA – The High Council and Central Bureau of the Sunni Friday and Congregational Prayers Leaders in south Iran in a statement on Saturday condemned Saudi air raids on Yemen.

'Muslim world is afflicted by uproar and tension as a result of direct and indirect aggressions of the global arrogance, something which has disturbed security and peace in the Middle East,' read part of the statement.

The statement, a copy of which was made available to IRNA on Saturday, read that having fanned flames of war among Muslims, enemies of Islam follow a hypocritical policy and visibly or invisibly pit Muslim nations against each other so as to prolong conflicts and bloodshed.

The statement said Friday and congregational prayers leaders, Ulama, seminary schools and theologians of Sunnis south of Iran, while voicing outrage against the ongoing conditions in Yemen want immediate halt to Saudi military invasion and urge the belligerent parties to turn to peace.

Saudi Arabia’s military aggression against Yemen, which is being carried out without a United Nations mandate, has claimed the lives of almost 2,600 people.

Yemen has been under Saudi airstrikes since March 26 in a campaign aimed at restoring power to the country's fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

On Monday, Colonel Sharaf Luqman, the spokesman for Yemen’s armed forces and popular committees, said that civilians and Yemeni infrastructures have been the targets of the Saudi aggressions.
