Zarif: Saudi should cooperate with Islamic states on Haj ceremony

Beirut, Sept 29, IRNA - Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday cabled a message to his Lebanese counterpart, Gebran Bassil, expressing the hope that the Saudi officials understand their grave responsibilities on proper conduct of Haj ritual ceremony and prepare the grounds for cooperation, as well as the utilize experiences of Islamic states in carrying out the divine duty to prevent reoccurrence of such catastrophe in the future.

In the message, Zarif expressed regret over the fatalities and injuries of hundreds of Haj pilgrims on Eid ul Adha in Mina.

Zarif also expressed condolences and sympathy with the bereaved families from all countries who are in the list of victims of the incident.

Mina incident was the second painful incident of its kind in this year's Haj ritual ceremony which hurt sentiments of the Islamic Ummah and threatened security and wellbeing of Haj pilgrims, Zarif said in the message.

About 2000 people were killed in Mina stampede due to irresponsibility and illegibility of Saudi officials.

According to the latest news some 239 Iranian pilgrims were killed, some 28 are now hospitalized and 248 others are still missing.
