Al-Abadi made the remarks during a phone conversation with Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, according to a statement released by the office of Iraq prime minister.
He noted that all the Iraqi people, the country's army, Police and the Popular Mobilization Forces (al-Hashd al-Shaabi) contributed to the recent victories of Iraq in countering terrorist groups.
The Iraqi official also once again appreciated Iran's support for the Iraqi government and people in the war against terrorism.
Underlining the need to join hands to uproot terrorism in the region, al-Abadi urged both Tehran and Baghdad to promote economic cooperation.
